Sometimes, I endeavor to live my life with my head buried deep in the sand. It’s a place where I attempt to live according to the misconception that if I don’t acknowledge what’s going on, then somehow I am not responsible to do anything about it. When I live with my head in the sand everything is about me and my own little world. It’s a selfish place really.
But, Sunday as I sat in church, God tugged at my heart.
I heard the pastor (my husband) say that as we follow hard after God and live for Him, we’ll take an interest. We’ll take an interest in our neighbor. We’ll take an interest in our family. We’ll take an interest in the hurting and dying.
God spoke to my heart and I knew right then that having my “head buried in the sand” was not an option. God wants me to take an interest.
Just recently I became aware of Compassions Day of Prayer and Fasting for the Global Food Crisis.
I know that I have been affected by the rising food prices that alarm me every time I step into the grocery store. But, even with the rising grocery prices, my family still eats 3 meals a day plus snacks! When I pull my head from the sand I realize those rising food prices affect so many others around the world in a much bigger way.
The Global Food Crisis is being referred to as a “silent tsunami” that is affecting families across the globe.
According to the Compassion website: Prices on basic food items such as rice, beans and wheat have DOUBLED within the last year. And some people are forced to spend close to 80% of their income on just food.
Here’s what we can do to take an interest:
- Pray! Ask God what He would have you to do.
- Participate in Compassion’s day of prayer and fasting on June 25th
- Be informed and share with others
- Donate to the Global Food Crisis Fund
Let's take an interest, shall we. Join me tomorrow in praying for the Global Food Crisis.

I'll join you in praying, Jamie.
The rising food prices have definitely affected my family.
We started using Angel Food Ministries at the end of last year, and it has helped us tremendously.
But like you said, so many more people have it so much worse than we do. They have situations that we(as Americans) cannot even imagine.
I feel like my head has been buried lately too. With my health being so much of an issue lately, I have been thinking way too much about myself.
Thank you for the Godly reminder that their are others who need my help and prayers too. The world is definitely bigger than me. Amen? :)
Have a lovely day, Jamie.
God Bless,
Amy:)
I seem to always be fighting against the urge to bury my head in the sand too. Praying God will encourage and strengthen you and you to the hard things!
I just signed up to fast and pray. Thanks for sharing this!
This is so great...thanks for the info. I'm heading over there to read more about it. The part about the 80% of income being spent on food really hit me...
